Margarito was originally slated to fight Cotto in a title unification bout June 9 on the eve of New York's annual Puerto Rican Day Parade. But, faced with the threat of being stripped of his belt, Margarito was prompted to hold off and instead fight Williams, the WBO's top contender and mandatory challenger.
